Students will read great literature, continue working on phonics fundamentals by reading aloud and on their own, improve their written and oral comprehension skills through exercises and engaging projects, expand their vocabulary through applying contextual clues and using the dictionary, and examine characters within these stories to recognize those worthy of imitation. Most importantly, their love of literature will continue to grow.
With opportunities to discuss grammatical skills, show mastery of the skills, and then independently practice them, students will continue to gain understanding in and love of the English language. Grammar concepts include: subject and predicate, complete sentences, types of sentences, singular and plural nouns, proper nouns, verbs (present, past, future tense), compound sentences, quotation marks, abbreviations, pronouns, subject/verb agreement, commas in dates/places/series, adjectives, irregular verbs, contractions, adverbs, possessive nouns and pronouns, and choosing between adjectives/adverbs.
Students will continue to improve their writing skills through learning to model the writing of others. Writing paragraphs and stories from these models, they eventually write their own.

Using multi-sensory methods, cursive is presented through simplified letter forms to aid in the learning of motor skills necessary to write well.
